Citizen Kane - the Greatest of the Great?
In the minds of the critical community of the modern filmic world, the name of Citizen Kane (1941) is often bandied about as the greatest film of all time. In the view of this writer, that particular accolade should go instead to that brilliant masterpiece, Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather (1972) - but Kane is my definitive second, and, in the interests of high culture, I have here composed a tribute to it, and to its wunderkind director Orson Welles (1915 - 1985).
