A New Nation in Duetaria?

Taking a break from the trial in upmarket salon Sacher, King Clarkeos is surprised to see Count Berchtold on Channel One News-at-Eight, standing on a dais in a crowded marketplace. Ravenburger-Nasamonea banners and another, less familiar, flag are draped around the buildings, many of which are peppered with bullet holes and lacerations. At length the monarchical High Legate recognises it as Fauborg-de-St.Florentin, a river city in the Argivasque Riviera, an area bordering the Bay of Char and Ravenburg-Morovia in former nation Nasamonea.

Historically a state in Ravenburg-Morovia, Nasamonea itself was seized by right-wing rebels apparently acting under the auspices of Fronconia, a Madhavian ally-state. Nasamonea, with its Anglo-Nasamonean-French peoples, provided a violent battlefield for war by proxy conducted between the pro-Fronconian government and pro-Ravenburg-Morovia democratic guerrillas.

"Since 1954," begins Berchtold on the television, "Nasamonea has been torn by civil war, riven by disputes and the harsh dictatorship of General Louis La Valliere. Yesterday, however, the five year-long war with La Valliere's deputy, Mazarin, ended with a victory for pro-Duetaria democratic leaders Lieutenant General Richard Germain and Emilia DeWolfe-Havilland - their struggle, with Ravenburger-Morovian and Luschian aide, has now resulted in a stunning death blow to old-world fasicism!"

Cheers thunder out from the crowd, and General Germain, notoriously effete and vain, vaults up next to the acting chancellor, designated 'Protector and Friend of the Democratic Council in Nasamonea'.

"My People, we have returned power unto you!" cries Germain, provoking enraptured cheering and fanfare; numerous guns are fired into the air. "Today, I stand with Otto von Berchtold as a fellow leader! I stand here, your chosen legate, your revolutionary! This is a free Nasamonea once more, and we will never give in or give up from this day on! Liberty! Equality! Fraternity!"

The key issue now, though, is: will Nasamonea join Duetaria, its days as a political pariah over?

The current Nasamonean Government is being led by President-elect Richard Germain, also Vice-Chief of the Joint Staffs Committee, and is chaired by Cabinet Chairwoman and Vice-President-elect Emilia DeWolfe-Havilland. The eighteen person cabinet, made up of the President and Vice-President and sixteen heads of Departments of State, is being centred on the former Nasamonean capital city, Sarbaris. The "Sarbarite Faction", a group of Tories under the Mayor of Sarbaris, is attempting to call General La Valliere back to power, but the Government is currently in action establishing twenty national 'departments', akin to Luschian federal states.
